About Liposuction

Diet and exercise-resistant fat cells in the body can be highly difficult to burn off. Even if you keep a diligent routine, excess fat can stubbornly remain in key areas like the abdomen, chest, buttocks, back, upper arms, thighs, and calves. This can keep people who have put in the work to lose weight from achieving the body of their dreams. Receiving a liposuction procedure from Dr. Davoudi can combat this issue directly, providing a slimmer, more toned, and better-contoured body you can be proud of.

At Atlantic Center for Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery, we offer a variety of different liposuction techniques that can be customized to fit the unique needs of each patient. A typical liposuction procedure involves the injection of tumescent fluid into the targeted fat pockets prior to the surgery. This fluid is a mixture of saline, lidocaine (a local anesthetic), and epinephrine (a medication that contracts blood vessels). This makes it easier for Dr. Davoudi to remove the fat cells, reduces blood loss, and provides anesthesia during and after surgery. It also makes the liposuction process less intensive for the patient’s body and can reduce recovery time. (1)

Once the tumescent fluid has taken effect, Dr. Davoudi makes small incisions in the skin near the pockets of fat. Through these incisions, he inserts a narrow tube called a cannula to break up the fat and remove it using suction. He can remove precise amounts of fat cells from particular parts of the treatment area to provide natural-looking contours that accentuate your figure.

Who is a Candidate for Liposuction?

Candidates for liposuction are men and women who have persistent fatty pockets but who are otherwise in good health. It is not a weight loss solution, and you should be close to your target weight before considering the surgery. (2) You should also have healthy and elastic skin, otherwise you may need to receive an additional body contouring procedure to remove resultant excess and sagging skin. Having a positive attitude and realistic expectations will help us bring you the best care we can. Individuals with certain medical conditions may not be suitable for liposuction surgery. To determine your eligibility, we will discuss this and other topics at your consultation.

Personal Consultation

At your personal consultation, we will discuss the liposuction treatment process and give you an idea of what to expect. We will gladly answer your questions and address any concerns that you have. Together we will discuss your beauty goals, and we will examine your body to determine the most efficient way that we can help you reach them. Preparation

We will give you preparation instructions designed to get your body ready for surgery and encourage proper healing during recovery. These may include alterations to your lifestyle and prescription intake. Keeping a steady weight leading up to your procedure will help Dr. Davoudi achieve meticulous aesthetic results. Maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine will also increase your body’s ability to heal. If you are a smoker, you must quit until you are completely recovered from your liposuction treatment. The negative health effects of smoking can lead to complications and prolong your recovery. Avoid NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs), vitamin E, and certain herbal supplements as well. These substances have a blood-thinning effect that can cause excess bleeding and bruising.

As you recover, you may be disoriented and experience limited mobility, depending on your treatment areas. Arrange for a ride home from our facilities after your surgery, and prepare your home for recovery. Stock your home with healthy foods and create a comfortable space suited for rest and relaxation.

Liposuction Procedure

When you come in for your procedure, we will administer local or general anesthesia, depending on the treatment plan Dr. Davoudi has created for you. We will also inject your targeted fat cells with tumescent fluid. Dr. Davoudi will perform your procedure by making incisions in the treatment area and removing the fat cells with a cannula. If your treatment involves a combination of body contouring techniques, he will remove excess skin and tissue as well. You will be under careful observation throughout the procedure and receive intravenous fluids during and immediately after surgery. He will close your incisions and we will take you to a recovery room where we will monitor your condition as the anesthesia wears off. The time required to perform liposuction surgery varies considerably, depending on the size of the treatment area, the amount of fat being removed, and the type of anesthesia and techniques used.

Recovery

Recovery from liposuction may require one to two weeks of downtime, depending on the amount of fat that we remove. We will give you compression garments to wear around your treatment area to minimize swelling. You will also be taking prescribed antibiotics to prevent infection as you heal. It is normal to experience some initial discomfort, swelling, and temporary numbness during this period of healing.

You should stand up and walk around often to reduce swelling and encourage good circulation. Drink sufficient water to avoid dehydration and refrain from consuming alcohol for a few days. Wait until your incisions are fully healed to submerge yourself in bathtubs or swimming pools. You can resume everyday activity when your condition has become more stable and you feel up to it. Avoid strenuous activity for several weeks to a month.

Results

You will be able to see an initial transformation in your appearance immediately after your liposuction procedure. However, swelling will obscure the final aesthetic results for up to six months. When it goes down completely, you will be able to see the precise bodily contours that Dr. Davoudi sculpted during your surgery.

The results of liposuction are technically permanent, as fat cells cannot come back once they have been removed. However, the aesthetic appearance of your body is always subject to change, as your remaining fat cells can grow and shrink according to weight fluctuations. For this reason, you should maintain your diet and exercise regimen to uphold your results for as long as possible.

We offer additional procedures that can work alongside or in addition to your liposuction to further enhance your appearance. These include breast augmentation, breast reduction, and tummy tucks

FAQ

How much fat can liposuction remove?

Liposuction is not a weight loss solution, as it is only meant to improve the aesthetics of areas of the body with accumulated pockets of excess fat. Removing too much fat can cause complications, and the most that can be safely removed is about six to eight pounds.

Can I receive liposuction if I am pregnant?

Surgeons do not perform liposuction on pregnant individuals. If you are pregnant, you should wait at least one year to receive liposuction, so your body can recover and return to a steady weight.

What is the difference between liposuction and non-surgical fat reduction treatments?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that physically removes fat cells from the body, providing permanent results. Non-surgical fat reduction treatments, such as CoolSculpting, use various methods to target and destroy fat cells, but they do not involve surgery or permanently remove the fat cells.

Can liposuction be combined with other body contouring procedures?

Yes, liposuction can easily be combined with other surgical procedures, such as a tummy tuck or breast augmentation, to achieve more comprehensive results. Speak to your surgeon about the possibility of combining procedures at your personal consultation.
