Thigh Lift

Conveniently located to serve the areas of Atlanta and Duluth, GA

The thigh lift is an effective cosmetic procedure that removes excess fat and skin from the thighs. For some people who have undergone significant weight loss, their skin does not always fully conform to the body’s new shape. Droopy pockets of skin can affect your proportions, clothing options, and self-esteem. One of the areas of the body most affected by this problem is the thighs. (1) With a thigh lift, we can sculpt the thighs for a leaner figure and dramatically improve their appearance.

At the Atlantic Center for Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery, we tailor each procedure to meet a patient’s ideal body image expectations while ensuring balanced, natural-looking results. Led by Dr. R. Morgan Davoudi, we pride ourselves on providing high-quality care through meticulous attention to detail. If you would like to explore your thigh lift options further, please schedule a consultation with Dr. Davoudi today. About Thigh Lifts

Thigh lift surgery, also known as thighplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that focuses on reshaping the inner and outer thighs. This is achieved by removing excess skin and reducing fat, providing patients with a more attractive and toned appearance. (1) As we age, lose weight, or experience changes in body composition, the skin on our thighs can become loose or sag. A thigh lift aims to restore firmer and more youthful-looking legs, which can boost both physical appearance and self-esteem. Thigh lifts are becoming increasingly popular, especially among individuals who have experienced substantial weight loss or those seeking to improve their overall body contouring.

Benefits

Thigh lifts come with several benefits, including potential improvements in confidence and comfort when wearing fitted clothing or swimwear. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Davoudi, our thigh lift patients often experience benefits such as:

  • Enhanced contour: Sculpting the thighs leads to balanced body proportions and an overall enhanced silhouette.
  • Improved confidence: With tighter and smoother thighs, patients often feel more comfortable in shorts, swimsuits, and other fitted clothing.
  • Increased comfort: Reducing excess skin can minimize chafing and irritation caused by loose skin rubbing together.
  • More clothing options: Patients can wear different styles of clothing without feeling self-conscious about their thighs.
  • Better hygiene: Excess skin can sometimes trap moisture, leading to skin irritations. A thigh lift reduces this risk.
  • Potential for combination with other procedures: Thigh lifts can be effectively combined with other body contouring procedures, such as tummy tucks, to achieve a complete transformation.
  • Increased motivation for healthy lifestyles: Many patients find renewed motivation to maintain healthy weight management after undergoing a thigh lift, as removing excess tissue along the legs can make exercise easier.

Candidates

You may be a candidate for a thigh lift if you have experienced a loss of skin elasticity in the thigh or buttock areas. A thigh lift may also be indicated if your thigh appearance improves dramatically when you lift the lax skin. If you are self-conscious about your lower body appearance, you may also want to consider a thigh lift. Patients with cellulite on their thighs can also see an improvement in their condition with this procedure. A thigh lift produces tighter, more attractive thighs by sculpting them for a smoother, leaner appearance. It is also intended to decrease irregularities in the skin surface. Patients should also be in good general health and have realistic expectations for their results. Ultimately, a consultation with Dr. Davoudi can help patients explore their candidacy for thigh lifts and/or other procedures that will help them achieve their desired results.

Preparation

Each patient will receive preparation instructions written specifically for their procedure, accounting for their goals and medical history. You may be required to alter your medication regimen to avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements. Alcohol and nicotine should also be avoided. You may also be required to fast for a set timeframe before the day of your procedure. Please arrange transportation home from our office. You should take appropriate time off of work or social engagements to allow yourself to recuperate. Following your preparation instructions carefully will help ensure your procedure is safe and effective while minimizing your recovery time and risk of complications.

Procedure

Thigh lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis unless otherwise advised by Dr. Davoudi. The incisions used in your thigh lift will depend on what parts of the thigh are being treated and any personal preferences for appearance. Thigh lifts generally fall under one of two categories: lateral thigh lifts, which treat the outer thigh, or medial thigh lifts, which treat the inner thigh. (2) These procedures can be performed simultaneously. (2) Lifting the inner thighs requires only short incisions extending from the anterior part of the thigh/groin crease around to the buttock crease. In a medial thigh lift, incisions will begin near the groin and descend the leg toward the knees

Once incisions are made, Dr. Davoudi will remove excess tissues along the thighs. Because the thighs are one of the body’s main fat storage sites, many thigh lift procedures will include liposuction to remove stubborn fat deposits and further accentuate a patient’s appearance. After removing tissues, Dr. Davoudi will tighten the muscles on the thighs, creating a stronger foundation that prevents skin from sagging further. Once satisfied with the results, the remaining skin will be redraped and secured with sutures. The entire thigh lift procedure can take several hours depending on the individual case complexity.

Recovery

The patient is typically placed in a compression garment (similar to a long-line elastic support girdle) at the end of surgery to reduce swelling and assist in the natural shrinking and tightening of the skin. With a smaller thigh lift, initial discomfort is usually easily controlled with prescription pain medication. With larger thigh lifts, one or two nights of care in a skilled nursing facility or hospital are usually required. Bruising and swelling usually subside within a month, and strenuous activities are usually possible in 6 weeks. Almost all symptoms are gone in 4-6 months. Follow-up appointments will be scheduled to monitor your recovery progress and address any concerns.

Results

Once healed, you can enjoy noticeable improvements in the appearance of your thighs. You can expect shapely and more contoured legs that align with your aesthetic vision. Scarring will gradually fade over time, and careful incision placement ensures minimal visibility.

Corresponding Procedures

Thigh lifts are frequently combined with other procedures, allowing patients to reduce their overall recovery time and experience comprehensive body rejuvenation. After weight loss or aging, many patients’ arms are left with excess skin, just as the thighs are. An arm lift employs similar techniques used in a thigh lift to sculpt smooth, attractive arms. These are particularly effective for patients with “bat wings.”

Because many patients undergo thigh lifts after weight loss, tummy tucks (abdominoplasty) are also common. These procedures remove excess skin around the abdomen and tighten abdominal muscles, helping patients achieve the smooth, toned abdomen they have been working toward. Thigh lifts, arm lifts, tummy tucks, and more are also frequently combined in mommy makeover procedures. These comprehensive treatments help women achieve an ideal appearance after they have gained weight and undergone multiple physical changes due to pregnancy

If there are parts of your body that you would like to enhance besides your thighs, please discuss your concerns during your consultation.

FAQ

What is the difference between a thigh lift and thigh liposuction?

While both procedures involve addressing excessive fat, a thigh lift specifically removes excess skin and tightens underlying tissues, whereas liposuction solely focuses on fat removal.

How long do the results of a thigh lift last?

The results of a thigh lift can be long-lasting; however, weight gain or loss can affect the outcome. Maintaining a stable weight is beneficial for preserving results.

Can I combine a thigh lift with other procedures?

Yes! Many patients choose to combine thigh lifts with other body contouring surgeries, such as tummy tucks, for a more comprehensive transformation.

Is a thigh lift painful?

Most patients report manageable discomfort during recovery, which can be alleviated with prescribed pain medications. Patients do not feel any pain during the procedure itself due to anesthesia.
